The beautiful riverside scenery of Liuchuan can also be admired here — Zhonggang Drainage Channel is the new IG hotspot

The Liuchuan riverside in Taichung has become a popular attraction recently, transforming from a once heavily polluted and foul-smelling ditch into a new photo spot in Taichung. In addition to Liuchuan, there is also a spot in Xinzhuang District, New Taipei City, that resembles a New Taipei version of Liuchuan — the Zhonggang Drainage Channel, a major waterway in northern Xinzhuang. It features four themed zones: Green Life, Wind in Motion, Love of Water, and Dance of Light. Apart from its enchanting nighttime glow, the Rainbow Plaza has recently become a hot IG photo spot.

The main section of Zhonggang Drainage Channel is approximately 2,600 meters long and serves as a primary waterway in northern Xinzhuang. In the past, the polluted water was pitch black and emitted a foul stench, causing numerous environmental issues. After undergoing phased remediation efforts — including dredging and wastewater treatment — and beautifying the landscapes along both sides, it has successfully become the “Cheonggyecheon of Greater Taipei.”

The accessibility design of Zhonggang Drainage Channel is quite thorough, making it easy for wheelchair users to navigate. The pathways feature varied surfaces, with occasional wooden boardwalks interspersed among stone pavements, adding a unique charm.
