9 seconds to the ground floor！Taiwan’s first indoor “sky slide” opens in a department store in Taichung

No need to envy other countries—Taichung now has Taiwan’s first giant slide set inside a shopping mall！The Dayeh Takashimaya New Life Mall recently installed two“sky slides”, allowing visitors to slide down from a height of 16 meters in just 9 seconds. Trial operations are underway from now until June 30, with official opening scheduled for July.

Liu Ming-ting, head of the planning division at Dayeh Takashimaya New Life Mall, said,the two sky slides differ in height and are located on the 2nd and 3rd floors respectively. The one on the 3rd floor is 16 meters long with a vertical drop of 9.4 meters, taking just 9 seconds to slide from the 3rd to the 1st floor; the 2nd-floor slide is 11.5 meters long with a vertical drop of about 5.2 meters.

Both sky slides are made of stainless steel, and riders will be provided with sliding suits. The slides’ surfaces are treated with special materials so that users can enjoy views of the mall’s central atrium while sliding.

During the trial period,visitors can purchase tickets on-site—the 2nd-floor slide is offered at a discounted price of NT$40 per ride, and the 3rd-floor slide at NT$60 per ride. From August, prices will return to normal: NT$60 for the 2nd floor and NT$90 for the 3rd. In addition, residents of East District, Taichung, can show their ID card for one free ride on the 2nd-floor slide; alternatively, shoppers who spend NT$799 or more in the mall can also enjoy one free 2nd-floor slide ride.

The sky slides are currently in trial operation, and there are age, height, and weight restrictions. The Dayeh Takashimaya New Life Mall also reminds the public that those with cardiovascular diseases or pregnant women should not use the slides.
