Pingtung’s “Mountain-River Glass Suspension Bridge” spans the Ailiao River and is located between Sandi Village in Sandimen Township and Beiyeh Village in Maolin Township, Pingtung. With a total length of approximately 262 meters and a height of about 45 meters above the ground, it is currently the longest suspension bridge in Taiwan since its opening, with the Maolin entrance located at the Taiwan Indigenous Peoples Cultural Park and the Sandimen entrance adjacent to Fugu Bay Restaurant. The glass bridge not only serves as a transportation route but also showcases the local indigenous culture and history. To accommodate the construction of a new tourist service center, the glass bridge will close the Sandimen entrance for three months from October 1 until the end of the year, while the Maolin entrance remains open. To maintain recreational quality and visitor safety, only 250 people per session will be allowed via advance reservation.

The design of the “Mountain-River Glass Suspension Bridge” was created by indigenous art master Sakuliu Pavavaljung, drawing inspiration from the glass beads of the Paiwan and Rukai tribes. Glass beads are inlaid on both sides of the bridge, accompanied by light sculptures at night, and 32 indigenous cultural story panels are arranged along the bridge approach. Large stone installations stand at each end of the bridge, with sweet potatoes and taro symbolizing ethnic unity, along with mosaic artworks created by students from Sandimen Domoer Elementary School and Maolin Beiyeh Elementary School. During the closure of the Sandimen end of the bridge (October 1 to December 31), the shuttle bus service between the Maolin and Sandimen ends will be suspended.
