In response to the high passenger volume during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays, Taiwan Railways has set the following ticket booking periods for the two major holidays
 
Mid-Autumn Festival: October 4, 2017 (Wed)
Tickets go on sale at midnight on September 19, 2017 (Tue)
Bookable travel dates
October 3–5, 2017 (Tue–Thu)

National Day Holiday: October 7–10, 2017 (Sat–Tue)

Tickets go on sale at midnight on September 22, 2017 (Fri)
Bookable travel dates
October 6–11, 2017 (Fri–Wed)

Additionally, to coincide with the 2017 Taiwan Bicycle Festival, an extra service was added on Friday, September 8, 2017: Puyuma "Owl Bear 'Ride & Call' Painted Train" No. 5105 Taipei (10:10) → Chaozhou (14:51) and No. 5120 Chaozhou (16:11) → Taipei (21:00). This new Taroko Express service made its debut, stopping at stations including Banqiao, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Taichung, Changhua, Chiayi, Tainan, Kaohsiung, Pingtung, and Chaozhou. Online and telephone booking opened at midnight on September 4, 2017.
