The breathtaking scenery of Sun Moon Lake is beloved by both domestic and international tourists. But besides Nantou, “i, Wu Retention Basin” in Yunlin has recently been hailed by netizens as Taiwan’s second Sun Moon Lake. Though it’s not a well-known spot and sees fewer visitors, it boasts lake views that rival those of Sun Moon Lake. The shimmering waters and serene atmosphere are truly captivating.

Yunlin’s Kouhu Township was once one of the areas most severely affected by land subsidence. The county government transformed the abandoned farmland, which had suffered from seawater intrusion, into i, Wu Retention Basin. This not only solved the flooding problem but, through the slow work of nature, also created a stunning lake destination.

In addition to its picturesque lake views, i, Wu Retention Basin, along with the nearby Hukou Wetlands, offers opportunities to observe a variety of wetland wildlife, including black-headed gulls, little egrets, yellow-bellied prinias, little terns, and red-tailed shrikes soaring above the basin. Moreover, the popular Jackie Chan Gathering Hall and Jackie Chan Wetlands are also located nearby, just a five-minute drive away.
