“Nuit Blanche” is a global nighttime urban arts festival, founded in Paris, France in 2002, and held overnight on the first Saturday of October every year. To date, over 120 cities have joined, including Kyoto, Melbourne, Toronto, and others. Utilizing the two core concepts of “urban innovation” and “public space design,” it presents a diverse range of artworks and performances that allow people to naturally engage with art and freely explore urban spaces. This year, Taipei will also host the event overnight on October 7–8.

By combining overnight entertainment with free admission, “Nuit Blanche” breaks down the boundaries between popular entertainment and fine art. The artworks are more diverse, engaging, and creatively interdisciplinary, blending cross-cultural and intergenerational aesthetics to create a unique environment of exchange and sharing within the city. Through art, urban spaces are transformed, turning the entire city of Taipei into a one-night-only, large-scale open-air museum！

The 2017 Taipei Nuit Blanche took “Gongguan” as its stage. Based on the urban cultural landscape of the exhibition areas, the 2-kilometer route was divided into three major themes: “Palm Grove Electric Light Treasures,” “Wenluo Ting Independent Treasures,” and “Cross-Cultural Dream Treasures.” A variety of exhibitions and performances were arranged, along with the participation of over 30 cultural venues including the National Palace Museum, the Presidential Office, the Taipei Fine Arts Museum, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei, all opening their doors to celebrate the beauty of late-night art.
