Breathtaking New Seaside Attraction: Taiwan’s Most Scenic Viaduct Opens to Traffic

The East Coast of Taiwan is long and narrow, bordered by the majestic beauty of the Pacific Ocean, making South Link Highway a popular route for many travelers. Located between Jinfeng and Duoliang in Taitung County, the “Jinfeng Bridge,” which adopts a four-lane outer ring road design on the Jinfeng section, is a newly opened viaduct that has recently been opened to traffic. Built along the stunning Pacific coastline, it has been dubbed Taiwan’s most beautiful viaduct, sparking considerable online discussion and becoming a new landmark for Taitung.

The “Section 412K+350~415K+500 Widening and Improvement Project of Provincial Highway 9” includes the 1,315-meter-long Jinfeng Bridge, as well as the addition of two northbound lanes on the seaward side of the existing Provincial Highway 9 in the Duoliang section. This elevated section is 1,361 meters long and includes related works such as retaining walls. Together with the already open Duoliang Bridge to the south, the entire project is now fully open to traffic.

The newly opened Jinfeng Bridge features a long-span design to avoid obstructing the natural landscape and ecology, reducing the structural volume of the bridge, optimizing its dimensions, and making it a distinctive landmark for the village. Once open to traffic, it will increase road capacity and service levels by adding two lanes in both the northbound and southbound directions, alleviating congestion on Jinfeng Street during consecutive holidays, improving the quality of life for villagers and the comfort of road users, boosting regional tourism development, and invigorating the local hot spring industry while highlighting local characteristics.
