Typhoon Lan (international name: LAN), now intensified to a severe typhoon, is moving toward southern Japan. As it nears, its strong peripheral winds have triggered heavy rainfall in the Kanto region, Kii Peninsula, and Shikoku. In Chiba Prefecture’s Tōshō Town, rainfall reached 33 mm within just one hour on the afternoon of the 22nd. As the typhoon draws closer, hourly rainfall in affected areas is expected to reach 50–70 mm, with some regions seeing up to 100 mm. Japanese authorities have urged people to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities to stay safe.

Due to the strong airflow associated with the typhoon’s northward movement, Hokkaido in northern Japan is also experiencing strong winds and heavy snowfall. Many drivers are urgently switching to snow tires or chains, and temperatures are expected to drop sharply. Travelers planning to visit Japan soon, especially those driving themselves, should pay close attention to weather conditions and changes.
Due to heavy rain, snow, and strong winds, many public transport services and railway lines may be suspended. Travelers to Japan should monitor such situations, adjust their travel plans accordingly, and stay safe. Typhoon Lan is expected to have a significant impact on southern parts of Honshu including Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka from the 22nd to the 23rd, then move toward northeastern Japan and eastern Hokkaido from the evening of the 23rd through the morning of the 24th. Travelers planning to visit Japan soon should also stay updated on possible flight disruptions.
