Following the successful drilling of the hot spring source and the establishment of extraction and supply facilities in Baolai, Liouguei District, Kaohsiung, the Tourism Bureau has approved local commercial users to access the hot springs. In addition, the municipal government has developed Taiwan’s most unique “Baolai Hualang Hot Spring Park,” which features a foot-soaking experience area, helping to revitalize Baolai Hot Springs as a popular tourist destination in Kaohsiung.

Baolai has long been a renowned hot spring area in Kaohsiung and was once a hotspot for soaking in southern Taiwan, with a thriving hot spring tourism industry. However, after being severely damaged by Typhoon Morakot, the hot spring source in Baolai was buried deep underground by landslides. Thanks to the joint efforts of central and local governments, after seven years of hard work, a new hot spring source was successfully drilled. The hot spring water is rich in bicarbonate ions—16 times the standard value—and total dissolved solids are 20 times the standard level, with a pH of 7.2 (slightly alkaline), making it an exceptionally high-quality bicarbonate spring. It also yields approximately 170 metric tons of water per day, sufficient for visitors to enjoy.

The “Baolai Hualang Hot Spring Park” will open before the end of the year. The park also features a diverse range of plants and flower-viewing trails, along with foot soaking pools utilizing the hot spring resources, attracting visitors to enjoy flowers and hot springs in the Baolai area and restoring the former glory of its hot spring tourism industry.
