Taiwan’s highest and longest cloud ladder, the Taiping Cloud Ladder in Chiayi, sparked widespread discussion as soon as it opened, attracting many visitors. However, aside from the Taiping Cloud Ladder, the nearby trails of Dajianshan and Erjianshan in Meishan Township are also among the favorite spots for many hikers, offering not only breathtaking views of vast tea gardens intertwined with mountain ranges and sea of clouds but also a trail scenery known as the tea garden version of Eagle Stone Peak.

Erjianshan is located in Longyan Village, Meishan Township, Chiayi County, and is a subsidiary peak of Dajianshan, with an elevation of 1,274 meters. Starting the hike from Zhuzicen, you follow along the ridge of Dajianshan, pass the highest triangulation point of Dajianshan, and then gradually descend to a great resting spot for hikers. Looking toward Gukeng, you can overlook the Chiayi-Tainan Plain and rows of betel nut trees; looking toward Meishan, you can gaze into the valleys and tea gardens, with Guanling Mountain visible in the distance – the views are spectacular.

Another hiking entrance is from behind Longxing Temple, where you ascend along a wooden-plank trail. Along the way, besides dense bamboo and cedar forests, you’ll occasionally walk through tea gardens, adding a unique charm to the experience. Every year during the cold fronts in autumn and winter, you may even have the chance to witness the majestic sea of clouds. Walking along the trail feels like being in a paradise on earth.
