The cloud waterfall and crystal light offer a spectacular nighttime view that’s only available in autumn and winter. Located on the Alishan Highway in Zhendingzhuo, Chiayi, this dreamlike crystal light appears as the weather turns colder in fall, attracting many photography enthusiasts to make a pilgrimage and capture the season’s limited, breathtaking night views. To promote local tourism, the county government will also hold the “Cloud Waterfall Crystal Light Festival” in December, featuring collaborations with travel agencies, accommodation providers, local specialties, tea ceremonies, and photography competitions.

The crystal light is a unique phenomenon exclusive to autumn and winter. When light refracts through clouds and fog, it produces a translucent, iridescent glow reminiscent of crystal, combined with the views of the cloud waterfall and the Milky Way, creating an illusion of being in a fairyland. Near Shizhuo No. 6 in Zhushan Township, you can witness such a magical cloud waterfall, which is why it draws many photography enthusiasts on weekends, all vying for the perfect spot to capture beautiful shots.

The cloud waterfall is most visible from the afternoon to evening during the cold months from November to February. In addition to Zhendingzhuo, the Guanyun Platform at ErYanping Mountain Summit is also an excellent spot to enjoy the cloud waterfall and sunset colors, with daytime views of the Chianan Plain. Moreover, the Xikeng Viewing Platform along the Alishan Highway is another prime location to see the cloud waterfall and crystal light.
