U.S. President Trump visited Japan on November 4 for a two-day stay that sparked widespread discussion. This restaurant in Ginza is a Michelin one-star teppanyaki eatery — the world’s only teppanyaki restaurant with Michelin recognition. Located on the first floor of the Jiji Press Building, it’s called Ginza Ukai-tei, with prices ranging from 19,440 yen to 29,160 yen. Adding drinks and other items, the cost per person is around 30,000 yen. The warm interaction between Trump and Abe clearly reflects their close relationship.

This high-end teppanyaki spot has a branch in Taiwan — its only overseas location — situated at Silks Club in Kaohsiung’s Silks Club. Trial operations began on July 15, 2017. UKAI TEI (Ukai Teppanyaki) is the premium restaurant introduced by this five-star hotel, targeting southern Taiwan’s consumer market. It quickly gained attention among foodies, and the recent news of Trump dining at the flagship Ginza location during his state dinner with Abe has brought it back into the spotlight.

According to a report by the Nikkei, Trump and Abe had four meals together over the two days (two lunches and two dinners), while Trump’s wife shopped at a high-end jewelry store in Ginza accompanied by Abe’s wife. The street was cleared for their visit, drawing attention from passersby. After two days in Japan, Trump flew to South Korea for a one-day visit.
