Enormous eyes gaze at the city — the world’s most beautiful glass library is right here

Dutch world-class architectural firm MVRDV has produced renowned buildings internationally, including the “The Vertical Village” exhibition for Taiwan’s Chung Yuan Christian University Art Foundation. Their latest project is the glass library in Tianjin Binhai Cultural Center. The massive, square glass façade features an eye-shaped design, while inside, there is a large elliptical spherical structure surrounded by layered circular bookshelves — resembling a giant eye gazing over the city.

At the center of the library is a white spherical hall with a diameter of over 20 meters. The sphere’s surface is made of perforated aluminum panels backed with LED lights, which create a dazzling glow at night, resembling a bright eye watching over Binhai. The library covers a total area of 33,700 square meters, with five floors above ground and one underground. It houses 1.35 million books and provides 1,500 reading seats.
