The annual Christmas light display at Hong Kong Harbour City is a holiday highlight, and this year it brings “flying” surprises! From November 21, 2017 to January 1, 2018, the Ocean Terminal open plaza becomes an “Air City,” where three giant Christmas spaceships soar through the starry sky. Visitors can even board the largest spaceship in the plaza and take off into the clouds to find a joyful Christmas! During the weekends, Harbour City will also present Hong Kong’s first-ever drone light show in the sky; combined with on-site lighting effects, LED violin performances, and Hoop hula hoop dancing, it adds to the festive cheer.

This year, Harbour City invites everyone to “fly” into a dreamy starry sky and experience a different kind of joyful Christmas! The most eye-catching attraction is the giant Christmas spaceship parked in the center of the plaza; it is 20 meters long and over 7 meters high, with propeller-shaped carousel lights spinning at the front and back, along with more than 2,000 LED lights twinkling brightly, welcoming visitors to board the ship for a “photo op”! The entire Ocean Terminal open plaza will be transformed into a surreal romantic scene, like being in an “Air City,” with two spaceships loaded with Christmas gifts and dazzling colorful hot air balloons. Santa Claus has also “inflated” himself especially to join everyone in a merry Christmas “flight”! Children can also sit on the “roof” of the Christmas cottage and feel everything spinning in the dreamy starry sky. The joyful Christmas atmosphere extends from the plaza to the Ocean Terminal building staircase, where the top of the stairs is hung with various giant Christmas decorations such as candy canes, wreaths, wooden horses, and gift boxes, along with giant snowflake gears on both sides, all working together to spread happiness.

In line with this year’s Christmas theme, Harbour City has specially invited Hong Kong drone system expert Chan Chun-wai to custom-design Hong Kong’s first drone performance, combined with LED violin band performances and unique Hoop hula hoop dancing, presenting a spectacular sea-land-air Christmas special show that delights both on the ground and in the sky! Hong Kong drone system expert Mr. Chan Chun-wai has performed drones in Macau and China, but this is his first public performance in Hong Kong. This performance takes advantage of Harbour City’s unique location to arrange multiple glowing drones flying in formation and creating various patterns over Victoria Harbour and along the waterfront, enhanced by on-site lighting and music, sure to bring audiences an unprecedented visual surprise! In addition, to enhance the dreamy feeling of “Christmas in the air,” the open plaza will also add smoke effects during the performance to give everyone a more immersive extraordinary flying experience!
Additionally, the Ocean Terminal open plaza will feature a Christmas cottage covered with over a hundred hydrogen balloons. By donating HK$60 on-site to the Hong Kong Leukaemia Foundation, you can take photos with friends in the Christmas cottage and take home a Christmas hydrogen balloon to spread the joy.
