Kyoto’s annual winter spectacle, the “Kyoto Arashiyama Lantern Path,” is held from December 8 to December 17. As night falls, the bamboo groves, riversides, and temples in the Sagano-Arashiyama area are illuminated by dazzling colorful lights, offering a completely different charm compared to the scenic beauty of the daytime, attracting large numbers of visitors who come to admire the nighttime views every year.

“The Path of Lantern Flowers”
The uniquely Japanese and richly diverse variety of chochin lanterns in “Light and Shadow,” along with a range of ikebana floral artworks in “Flowers and Emotion,” are presented in full splendor along the approximately 5-kilometer walking path, making it impossible not to want to stroll down this road.

Bamboo Grove Path area
From Nomiya Shrine to Okochi-Sanso Villa, the bamboo groves on both sides of all walking paths are illuminated, adding an even more enchanting touch to the captivating evening atmosphere.

Ikebana Walking Path
With the support of the Kyoto Ikebana Association, displays are set up at several locations along the Path of Light and Flowers. Large vases are used to present a rich variety of ikebana in diverse and dynamic forms.
