Super bold juice drinks – enjoy an entire honeydew melon, watermelon, or pineapple in one go

Drinking juice can be bold – have you ever tried drinking an entire honeydew? A fruit ice shop in New Taipei City serves watermelon juice, honeydew juice, and pineapple juice measured by the “whole fruit.” You literally hold the whole fruit in your hand and drink from it – super bold. You get to experience three different fruit flavors at once, combining juice, pulp, and ice cream all in one – turns out fruit can be this “wild.”

“Ichifu Ice” was opened by two young owners, Xiao Zhu and A-Kai, in April this year. Xiao Zhu’s family has been in the fruit business, while A-Kai’s family runs a shaved ice shop. Combining their “professional” backgrounds, the two created their own unique fruit ice shop. In just over two months since opening, their signature “Ichifu Selection” – selling over 100 a day – has become a popular hit. Made with seasonal fruits like honeydew, pineapple, and watermelon, most of the pulp is blended into juice, while the harder outer skin is used as the serving container. You can also enjoy some of the pulp, which adds a bit more chew compared to regular fruit juices. Plus, you can choose a scoop of ice cream, giving you three different fruit experiences in one – the texture is incredibly rich.

If you’re lucky, you might also come across limited-edition fruit carvings. When inspiration strikes, the owners create cool limited-edition Ichifu Selections, such as shark watermelon and parrot pineapple, using impressive carving skills to decorate the fruit rinds, making drinking juice even more fun.

Xiao Zhu said he hopes to offer people more ways to enjoy fruit. Whether it’s juice, ice cream, or sorbet, all are made with fresh fruit, with no added sugar or water. Currently, the most popular item in the store is the fruit bowl “Ichifu Selection.” Recently, they’ve also added a white dragon fruit flavor, which is rare elsewhere and perfect for those who love trying new things.

Ichifu Ice is also a pet-friendly shop. The space is small, with only 10 seats available for dine-in or takeout. Xiao Zhu said that for customers who live far away, they will first pour the juice into a takeaway cup, keeping it separate from the fruit. Once home, customers can pour the juice back into the fruit. For those who live nearby, some even carry a whole watermelon with them to drink on the go.

To prepare for the shop’s opening, Xiao Zhu and A-Kai specifically went to learn how to make Italian gelato. After mastering the basic recipe, they developed and improved it on their own, using milk and seasonal fruits to create various flavors of Italian gelato. Additionally, Ichifu Ice also offers lighter sorbets, made purely from fruit with not a drop of water added, so you can taste the true essence of the fruit. Every day when the shop opens, they announce on social media which flavors are available that day – all are limited and sold out quickly.
