Riding on the wave of Japan’s lifted wagyu export ban, Japan’s leading udon chain “Marugame Seimen” is back in action, offering a 2018 New Year’s limited-edition, quantity-restricted “Wagyu Udon” for just three days from December 30 to January 1. On New Year’s Day, the dish will be upgraded at no extra charge to A5-grade “Kobe Beef,” one of Japan’s top three wagyu brands, priced at NT$370 for a single order. The “Wagyu & Japanese Yam Udon Set,” which includes wasabi pickled greens, mashed yam, and a mix of tempura (squid and shrimp), is an even better deal at just NT$430.

Marugame Seimen proudly celebrates its impressive track record of opening seven branches across Taiwan in recent years. Starting January 2018, the menu will undergo its most significant update yet: fan favorites that stay true to the authentic flavors of Japan such as “Kama-age Udon” and “Chawanmushi-rich Soup Udon” will remain, while new items developed based on feedback from local customers—including “Tomato Chicken Udon,” “Seasonal Vegetable Pork Udon,” and “Thai-style Pork Udon”—will be exclusive to Taiwan. The goal is to further establish roots in the local market and become the go-to udon brand.

The “Wagyu Udon” is made using A5-grade black wagyu directly from the brand’s own farm in Hyogo Prefecture, featuring beautifully marbled, finely-textured meat with a sweet and tender flavor that melts in your mouth—an unforgettable taste. It is served with the shop’s handmade udon, crafted from the golden ratio of wheat flour, water, and salt to achieve a springy texture, along with dashi broth simmered from bonito flakes—pushing the boundaries of udon deliciousness. The set comes with soothing mashed yam, a touch of wasabi pickled greens, and a mix of tempura (squid and shrimp) for the perfect finishing touch.

Marugame Seimen recommends this dish as a must-try. Following the brand’s collaboration with a major credit card company, the first promotion of its kind introduces a rewards point system upon card registration. Enjoy premium benefits including a free upgrade to luxury prawns and scallops, plus indulgent pork floss and cheese toppings. The dish is further elevated with aromatic spices and a drizzle of rich, savory sauce, all harmoniously paired with the signature chewy udon noodles.
This delicious Wagyu Udon is available for a limited time only—just three days.
Additionally, Marugame Seimen is celebrating the New Year by running a special “Upgrade Your Bowl for Just NT$1” promotion (excluding Wagyu Udon) from January 1 (Monday) to January 3 (Wednesday), 2018. This allows udon lovers to enjoy a hearty meal for just an extra dollar as they step into the new year.
The “Wagyu Udon” will be available in limited quantities simultaneously at all 27 nationwide outlets from December 30, 2017 to January 1, 2018. The single order price is NT$370, while the set meal (including wasabi pickled greens, mashed yam, and tempura mix) is only NT$430. Each store will limit sales to 10 bowls per day (some locations may increase availability depending on demand), and stock is available only while supplies last. On New Year’s Day (January 1), the dish will be automatically upgraded to the luxurious “Kobe Beef” at no extra cost. For those eager to taste one of Japan’s top three wagyu brands, this is the perfect opportunity.
