The 2018 Nantou “Tracking Snow to Find Plum Blossoms” series of events kicked off on December 23 at the Xinyi Plum Winery Dream Factory. This year, the low winter temperatures in Xinyi Township combined with moisture levels created ideal conditions—unlike the warmer winters of previous years that affected the blooming. The plum blossoms are set to be at their best in nearly 10 years, and January is the prime time for plum blossom viewing.

Low temperatures paired with moisture provide the perfect environment for plum blossoms to bloom. The peak blooming period is in the first half of January, with the floral display lasting until the end of the month. Visitors can admire the blossoms in areas such as Fengguidou, Wusong], Niuchongkeng, Waipingding, and Tuchang. In addition to the snow-white plum blossoms, there are also stunning displays of white michelia flowers and poinsettias to enjoy. After the Lunar New Year, cherry blossoms will begin to bloom in Caopingtou.
