Kaohsiung's Golden Galaxy Returns in Spectacular Style – Four Highlights and the Three Mountains Lantern Festival to Captivate Visitors

The 2019 Kaohsiung Lantern Festival is themed "Golden Galaxy," also featuring this year’s zodiac animal, the "Pig," as the central theme of the main lantern area. The festival comprises four major themes across 14 lantern zones. In addition to admiring the lights, the event has planned numerous exciting activities, such as visiting retro markets and attending superstar concerts, ensuring that visitors can enjoy delicious food and fun entertainment while taking in the lantern displays.

The 2019 Kaohsiung Lantern Festival’s Golden Galaxy features four major themed zones: "Childlike Wonder," "Nostalgic Flavors," "Charming Starlight," and "Romantic Vibes." In addition to traditional lantern works, it also debuts several spectacular hundred-meter tunnel lanterns, an ultra-fun original Mischievous Maze, the rhythmic light-shadow Waltz, and the emotive Kaleidoscope — large-scale creative lantern installations that enhance interaction and fun through dynamic light variations.

Additionally, the lantern festival plans to recreate the ambiance of the traditional 1950s by holding a retro market along the Love River. Visitors can enjoy the lanterns, sample delicious food, go shopping, and visit stalls offering cotton candy, dough figurines, and sugar paintings, presenting a nostalgic old-time night market vibe and creating the most unique lantern festival atmosphere in Taiwan.

During the lantern festival period, performances such as Pili Puppet Show, Ming Hwa Yuan Taiwanese Opera Troupe, and the Sapphire Cabaret Show hosted by Pai Ping-ping—one of Kaohsiung’s ambassadors—will also be featured, allowing attendees to relive the entertainment of bygone eras. Furthermore, there will be daily theater performances by “Kaohsiung People’s Theater,” plus superstar concerts featuring popular singers such as Wu Szu-hsien and Amber An.
