The colorful flower fields resemble overseas landscapes – a new hotspot for flower viewing at the Taibao Flower Sea Festival

The Chiayi Taibao Flower Sea Festival, known as Taiwan’s version of Provence or Hokkaido’s colorful flower fields, grandly kicked off just before the Lunar New Year. This year, the festival not only continues to feature the vibrant flower seas and straw installations, but also takes the Year of the Dog as its special theme “With Dogs, Go Happy,” planning numerous adorable installations paired with a colorful floral carpet scene, attracting large crowds of flower-viewing tourists every year.

The 25-hectare organic rice zone along Provincial Highway 18 next to the High-Speed Rail Boulevard features colorful flower seas planted with cosmos, oilseed rape, zinnias, and sunflowers. It includes three designed sections: the Arc Rainbow, the Colorful Stripes, and the Mixed Flower Sea, presenting layers of vividly colorful scenery that create a magnificent visual effect.

In addition, Taibao City is also the venue for the Taiwan Lantern Festival, which begins lighting up on February 16 (Lunar New Year’s Day) and runs for 24 days. Flower-viewing visitors can also enjoy nearby lantern displays, experiencing fun from day to night. During the Flower Sea Festival, shuttle buses are available between Chiayi High-Speed Rail Station and the festival grounds.

The Flower Sea Festival kicks off on February 10, with blooming flowers lasting until the 25th. In addition to the dazzling flower seas and straw installations, there are also activities such as giant claw machines, flower sea DIY sessions, flower sea art displays, and a flower sea market. Coupled with the Taiwan Lantern Festival in Chiayi, visitors might want to plan a trip to Chiayi during the Lunar New Year.
