3. The Great Buddha + Plus – Yunlin Kouhu
The domestic film The Great Buddha + Plus, which returned with accolades from the Toronto International Film Festival and also garnered attention at the Busan Film Festival, features a unique filming style that has made its locations popular among social media sharers. Kouhu Township in Yunlin is one of the poorest areas in the county. Due to its coastal location and low-lying terrain, seawater intrusion has caused ongoing land loss and salinization. At a glance, red-brick houses submerged in water form one of the most fantastical rural landscapes in Taiwan, giving the funeral scene of the character Belly Wealth a surreal touch.
