Free internet will soon be available on Mount Fuji too. On June 29, Japanese telecom company KDDI’s AU announced that it will install wireless base stations at 49 locations, including mountain huts and public facilities on Mount Fuji, to provide free Wi-Fi services.
AU, the major mobile communications brand under Japan's leading telecom company KDDI, announced on the 29th that it will provide free Wi-Fi services enabling smartphone internet access at all 49 mountain huts and public facilities on Mount Fuji. Moreover, the service is not restricted by mobile carriers and can be used by any provider.
Although most hiking trails on Mount Fuji currently have mobile phone signal coverage, this free service allows foreign visitors to upload photos and videos without using extra data or incurring additional costs.
