Another earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2 occurred in the early hours of Monday, 26th, felt almost across Taiwan, though most people were asleep and may not have noticed.

Before this earthquake, strong quakes also occurred offshore of Fukushima, Japan, and Bougainville in the South Pacific island nation of Papua New Guinea, with magnitudes of 5.7 and 7.5 respectively; the quake in the early hours of Monday had a depth of only 17.7 kilometers, with the epicenter located offshore of Yilan. The highest shaking was felt in Yilan’s Nan’ao at Level 5, Hualien at Level 4, Yilan and Hehuanshan in Nantou at Level 3, and New Taipei, Taipei, Taoyuan, Taichung, Miaoli, and Yunlin at Level 2. Southern regions felt little to no shaking.
