2018 Taipei Michelin Bib Gourmand Recommended Restaurants & Night Market Food List Announced

Michelin, known for evaluating starred restaurants, chose to unveil the list of eateries awarded the “Bib Gourmand” designation before the official release of the “Taipei Michelin Guide.”

The “Bib Gourmand” list includes 36 restaurants and eateries, 10 of which come from Taipei’s famous night markets. Michael Ellis, the International Director of the Michelin Guides, said: “Our inspectors have delved into the diverse and refined flavors of Taipei’s cuisine, including local specialties such as beef noodle soup, pig’s trotters, and squid balls—all delicious and great value for money.”

Among the “Bib Gourmand” selections, five are Taiwanese-style restaurants: Mau Yuan, a family-run eatery offering classic Taiwanese home cooking with warm service; Beautiful Restaurant, which sticks to its own recipes to present genuine Taiwanese tastes; My Stove, a small traditional Taiwanese eatery infused with modern flair; My Little Kitchen, a family-operated eatery serving specialty dishes; and Shuang Yue Food, dedicated to healthy and wholesome home-style dishes, including their signature free-range chicken soup.

The “Bib Gourmand” list also features exceptional beef noodle soup offerings, with eight restaurants making the cut: Yongkang Beef Noodles, Niu Dian Premium Stewed Beef Noodles, Liu Shan Dong Beef Noodles, Lin Dong Fang Beef Noodles, Liao Jia Beef Noodles, Lao Shan Dong Beef Home-Style Noodles, and Jian Hong Beef Noodles. A special mention goes to Halal Chinese Beef Noodle Restaurant, a noodle shop with over 60 years of history that offers a unique flavor well worth trying.

In addition, a total of 10 street food items from Taipei’s famous night markets have been selected for this year’s “Taipei Michelin Guide.” Among the “Bib Gourmand” street food picks, three come from Raohe Night Market: Chen Dong Herbal Stewed Pork Ribs, Fuzhou Shizu Pepper Buns, and Boss Shi’s Spicy Stinky Tofu. Nangang Night Market, Ningxia Night Market, and Linjiang Street Night Market each have two entries on the list. The final street food item to make the list is Hai You Shi Quan Pork Ribs, a long-standing, over-40-year-old stall at Shilin Night Market.
