Every April marks the season when fireflies emerge in large numbers. Many tourists specifically plan firefly-watching itineraries across northern, central, and southern Taiwan. Aside from mountainous or forested regions, there are numerous firefly-viewing locations in the Taipei and New Taipei metropolitan areas. The hiking trails and parks in the Taipei-New Taipei area have improved greatly in recent years, facilitating the resurgence of firefly populations. Now, you can enjoy stunning fireflies without venturing too far.

1. Xindian Wenshan Farm
From April to August each year, visitors to Wenshan Farm in Xindian can witness swarms of glowing fireflies in the tea fields, walking trails, and camping grounds—making it the largest firefly habitat in northern Taiwan. This year’s firefly-watching packages include one-day and half-day tours, complemented by farm-themed activities such as tea-picking experiences, owl ornament DIYs, firefly lantern painting, firefly introduction sessions, and nighttime firefly viewing, offering a rich and exciting program.

2. Sanxia Yuanshan Eco Trail
Yuanshan in Sanxia offers a spacious eco trail. During the day, you can overlook vast cityscapes from the summit, while at night, the forested path begins to twinkle with firefly lights, allowing you to observe their magical activities.

3. Nangang Jiuzhuangli Osmanthus Riverside Trail
The Jiuzhuangli area in Nangang District features the “Osmanthus Riverside Trail,” the “Osmanthus Suspension Bridge Trail,” and the “Demonstration Tea Factory Mountain Loop Trail.” With rich ecological surroundings and limited public access, large numbers of fireflies fill the skies on summer nights, creating a spectacular and magical sight.
