Caroline fishpod trees burst into golden-yellow blooms, creating a stunning seascape — Taipower HQ becomes a new IG hotspot

It’s currently flower season, with a variety of blossoms adding vibrant colors to the landscape. Hidden in a lane opposite the headquarters of Taiwan Power Company (Taipower) in Gongguan, the rare non-native "Caroline fishpod tree" has quietly come into full bloom. Its beautiful yellow and white flowers have caught everyone’s eye, drawing crowds to take photos and turn it into a hidden floral gem tucked away in the alleys.

This lush Caroline fishpod tree was originally planted 35 years ago by a Taipower employee who mistakenly thought it was a bodhi tree. The tree was planted as an innocent wish for divine blessings for the smooth development of Taiwan’s power infrastructure. Over the years, it has grown strong and every April bursts into stunning yellow and white blooms. It has now become a popular photo spot, attracting not only many netizens but also wedding photographers, turning it into a hidden floral oasis in the city.

Originally planted within the office compound walls, Taipower created an open space for the public to better enjoy the tree’s blooms. They removed the wall, relocated power equipment, and installed open-air benches, while also giving the roots more room to grow naturally. Due to its rarity, the Taipei City Government Cultural Affairs Bureau has designated it as a "protected tree."
