Explore European Forest Trails: Taiwan’s Two Mahogany Tunnels

There are only a few species of mahogany in the world, and in Chiayi and Kaohsiung, there are respectively mahogany boulevards where two rows of dense trees weave into forest trails. Every spring during the leaf-falling season, the paths are carpeted with a romantic layer of fallen leaves, creating a breathtakingly exotic scenery. Mahogany trees are lush and green in spring and summer, and in late winter to early spring, their leaves turn reddish-yellow.

1. Chiayi – Section 2 of Shixian Road
On the median strip between Sections 2 and 3 of Shixian Road in Chiayi City, over a thousand tall mahogany trees are planted. Usually offering a lush, fairy-tale-like shade, in spring and summer, a profusion of fallen leaves covers the sidewalks, evoking the enchanting beauty of autumn. Coupled with the several-hundred-meter-long depth of the road, it has become an alternative photography spot for enthusiasts.

2. Kaohsiung – Sinvi Forest Recreation Area

Located in the Maolin Scenic Area, Sinvi Forest Recreation Area spans 30 hectares, covered in shaded woods that are lush and green in spring and summer, predominantly featuring mahogany, bamboo, and fir trees.

Among them is a mahogany boulevard about 2 kilometers long. In late winter to early spring, the green leaves of the mahogany trees turn reddish-yellow, and the fallen leaves blanket the trail. With rows of trees forming a natural corridor, the area exudes an exotic charm, attracting many couples to take wedding photos here.
