Free Wi-Fi is more important than price! A global survey on travelers' accommodation behavior

When planning a trip, many travelers pay close attention to selecting a hotel—not only considering whether the hotel offers free Wi-Fi, but also being very sensitive to the air quality in the hotel room. A recent “2018 Global Travelers’ Hotel Accommodation Behavior Survey” shows that most travelers worldwide prioritize price and location when booking a hotel, and prefer large chain hotels. However, Taiwanese travelers have a different perspective.

Taiwanese travelers prioritize free Wi-Fi when choosing hotels

The “2018 Global Travelers’ Hotel Accommodation Behavior Survey” found that nearly 70% of global travelers still prefer staying in large chain hotels. Meanwhile, one-third of Taiwanese travelers tend to choose hostels, the second highest proportion globally after Brazil. This not only helps save on travel budgets but also allows them to make friends from other countries.

Further exploring the factors global travelers consider when choosing a hotel, the survey showed that over 90% of travelers consider free Wi-Fi to be one of the most important amenities, followed by in-room refrigerators and complimentary toiletries. The survey also revealed that Taiwanese travelers value “free Wi-Fi” more than “price,” indicating that price is no longer their top priority.

According to the survey, after checking into a hotel room, over 60% of global travelers find bedbugs on the bed to be the most troublesome issue, while nearly 70% of Taiwanese travelers are most bothered by smoke and odors in the room, the highest proportion globally.

Globally, the most feared hotel neighbor is parents who let their kids run wild

Unexpected situations can still arise after checking into a hotel room. Among the top five types of guests that global travelers dread encountering in hotels, the first are “parents who let their kids make noise,” followed by “noisy guests in the hallway,” “noisy guests in adjacent rooms or nearby,” “guests who constantly complain to hotel staff,” and “guests who throw parties in the hotel.”
