The well-known music restaurant "Brown Sugar," which has been a fixture in Taipei for over 20 years, announced on its official Facebook page on June 12 that due to economic impacts, changes in consumer behavior, and continuously increasing costs, it has decided to temporarily cease operations starting immediately and will explore new business ventures before relaunching.

Brown Sugar holds many memories for those born in the 1960s and 1970s and was once the go-to destination for weekend outings. Originally located on Jinshan South Road, it later moved to Songren Road in Xinyi District, where it often saw packed crowds on weekends. However, in recent years, with changing consumer habits, other venues such as folk song Western restaurants and The Ladies' Store have also closed one after another.

Brown Sugar has become an iconic jazz music restaurant in Taipei and a pioneer for foreign singers performing in Taiwan. However, after years of operation and facing multiple rent hikes, the business could no longer bear the operational costs, leading to its closure.
