Every summer, various fireworks festivals of all sizes are held across Japan. In addition to many historically renowned displays, the first-ever "Tokyo Fireworks Festival ~EDOMODE~" in 2018, organized by the Tokyo Fireworks Festival Production Committee, grandly opened on August 11th in Tokyo’s Odaiba district.
A spectacular fireworks show will light up the Odaiba night sky on August 11th.
The first "Tokyo Fireworks Festival ~EDOMODE~" made a dazzling debut, featuring up to 12,000 fireworks, an 80-minute performance, and a fusion of traditional Edo culture and modern trends brought together by internationally acclaimed top-tier pyrotechnicians, musicians, and Kabuki prince Ichikawa Ebizō, descendant of the legendary Kabuki family, resulting in a collision of old and new cultures at this new-era fireworks festival.
Marugo Co., Ltd. is renowned for its theater-style fireworks, leading the Japanese fireworks scene with its gorgeous color schemes.
This world-class fireworks festival features a joint performance by four award-winning fireworks companies. They are: the originator of the Yae-core Transformation Chrysanthemum and Coconut Tree fireworks — Beniya Aoki Fireworks; MARUGO, known for its luxurious theater-style fireworks design; IKEBUN, masters of ultra-difficult time-difference fireworks; and Marutamaya Kosaku Fireworks, which has laid the foundation for the post-war revival of Japanese fireworks from the Meiji era through to the Heisei period.
Beniya Aoki Fireworks Co., Ltd. is the long-established shop that developed the Yae-core Transformation Chrysanthemum and Coconut Tree fireworks.
The 2018 Tokyo Fireworks Festival launched the "Tokyo Fireworks Festival × Kabuki" collaboration, marking the first-ever partnership between traditional Kabuki culture and fireworks. Leading actor Ichikawa Ebizō performed a dance against a backdrop of brilliant fireworks, while the "Tokyo Fireworks Festival × Kenshi Yonezu / Lemon" featured cutting-edge music artist Kenshi Yonezu’s song “Lemon,” performed alongside fireworks by MARUGO and Marutamaya Kosaku Fireworks. Together, they presented Tokyo’s 400-year-old new and old faces simultaneously on the night of Odaiba.
There are also multiple viewing options available. In addition to enjoying the display up close on the beach, you can also take a yakatabune (traditional Japanese houseboat), indulge in gourmet food and drinks while admiring the beautiful fireworks over the sea, or choose to avoid the bustling crowds and elegantly watch the fireworks from the Hilton Hotel by the seaside while savoring fine cuisine.
