A new hub for the literary and artistic crowd: A gathering of Eslite’s Nanxi cultural and creative aesthetic brands

Eslite Life Nanxi Store began its trial operation on September 20. In line with its cross-cultural “life theater” store concept, its white exterior wall features 19 wooden window-like designs. Bright and airy during the day, and softly glowing at night, these windows add a touch of reading ambiance, while the wooden-toned terrace space on the second floor serves as a performance and gathering venue, turning the constant flow of pedestrians and vehicles into participants in Nanxi’s “life gathering space.”

Inside, varying sizes of window-inspired designs symbolize a vibrant cultural community. The fourth floor features wrought-iron windows and wooden-framed windows to create a nostalgic, retro “Taiwanese life aesthetics” vibe, while the fifth-floor bookstore continues the historical legacy of the former “Today Department Store” cinema.

Six floor-to-ceiling multimedia video walls have been installed at the bookstore entrance, presenting a fresh reading landscape through text and visual animations. The book area retains the design ingenuity of the original five-meter-high movie screening hall with its arched ceiling, and during each weekend evening of the opening period, it will transform into a “late-night cinema.”

This time, Eslite Life Nanxi Store has also introduced “Southeast Asian language magazines” with voices from multiple countries for the first time, covering eight nations including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, the Philippines, and Indonesia, with nearly 80 language types. The entire store houses 2,000 types and nearly 5,000 magazines.

The children’s book area has carefully selected over 1,500 high-quality picture books from five continents, covering works from 46 countries in Europe, the Americas, Asia, Oceania, and Africa. Books are displayed by the continent of the authors, using distinctive works from around the world to guide young readers in exploring the planet.
