The first Boeing 787 aircraft introduced by a Taiwanese airline is about to arrive in Taiwan soon. The first of the 24 Boeing 787 Dreamliners ordered by EVA Air, the 787-9, was delivered on October 2, and BMW Group’s design team was invited to craft the passenger seats, creating a more premium flying experience for travelers.
EVA Air specially invited the Designworks design team under the BMW Group to focus on space and brand identity, breaking away from traditional thinking to create a more spacious feel.
This 787-9 is configured with 304 seats, including 26 Royal Laurel Class and 278 economy class seats. The Royal Laurel Class cabin was designed by the Designworks team under the BMW Group, featuring thoughtfully adjustable dividers to enhance passenger privacy, as well as storage spaces that naturally blend into the overall design.
The Royal Laurel Class is equipped with an 18T high-resolution touchscreen along with noise-canceling headphones, plus an enlarged tray table for more spacious comfort.
The in-flight entertainment system has been upgraded with an 18T high-resolution touchscreen and noise-canceling headphones; the tray table has also been specially enlarged to provide a more spacious environment for dining or working. Additionally, there are multi-purpose power outlets designed with business travelers in mind, turning the airplane into a temporary personal office.

Meanwhile, the economy class cabin on EVA Air’s 787 aircraft was designed by the internationally renowned design firm Teague. The seats are made by RECARO, a famous German racing seat manufacturer. They feature an ergonomic, ultra-slim structure, high-quality leather headrests that can be adjusted up and down, six-way reclining angles, and neck support. There is also a 12T high-resolution touchscreen, offering long-haul passengers a high-quality space for rest and entertainment.
The economy class cabin was designed by Teague, an internationally renowned design company that has long collaborated with Boeing. The overall design matches the color scheme of the business class, creating an elegant and refined modern atmosphere.
Currently, EVA Air plans to introduce a total of 24 Boeing 787s. This year, four 787-9s will be delivered one after another starting from this year, while the 787-10 is expected to be introduced in the second quarter of 2019 and fully delivered by 2022. It is expected that by the end of October, Taiwanese travelers will be able to experience the latest 787 Dreamliner services from EVA Air. Initially, the service will mainly operate on the Taipei–Hong Kong route, and will expand to Japanese routes after the second aircraft is introduced—something to look forward to.
