Miaoli’s Super Dreamy Macaron-Themed Homestay – A Real-Life Fairy Tale World!

Nestled in the mountains of Miaoli, there are four dreamy macaron-style wooden cabins in pink, Tiffany green, yellow, and pink-orange. These uniquely colored cabins have an ultra-pastel exterior, surrounded by lush greenery, resembling fairy-tale houses hidden in the forest. There’s only one such homestay in this vast mountain area – you might just end up “owning the mountain” and becoming the king of the hills.

Fukuchou Health Farm adopts an organic and toxin-free management model – chemical fertilizers and pesticides are strictly prohibited here. The entire mountain emphasizes living in harmony with nature. In 1991, Owner Lai bought this mountain after leaving his job, originally planning to live here to recuperate and build a home for his family. But over time, life in the mountains got a bit dull, so he transformed it into a homestay open to travelers who want to enjoy life in the great outdoors. The owner’s daughter mentioned that the whole homestay spans about 4 acres, with only five small cabins. Aside from the four pastel-toned macaron cabins, there’s also a Forest Breathe Glass House, which just opened in February this year – no other buildings exist on the property. The entire homestay has an entire mountain to itself.

Fukuchou Health Farm sits at an altitude of over 300 meters, with very convenient transportation – just a 3-minute drive from Provincial Highway 6. It’s secluded yet not remote. The space in the mountains is very spacious – unlike urban areas where every inch counts, the distance between each pastel macaron cabin is just right. Even the closest neighboring cabin is about a three-minute walk away, giving guests more personal space and a tranquil, vacation-like atmosphere.

There are four standalone macaron cabins in total, available as four-person rooms and double rooms. The four-person rooms are the pink and banana-yellow cabins; the two-person ones are the Tiffany green and peach-pink cabins. On weekdays, the double room rate is 2,000 NTD per night, while on holidays, the maximum price is 4,000 NTD, which can accommodate up to five people.

The glass house, which opened in February, has only two rooms, one on each floor, offering complete privacy. Each room features floor-to-ceiling glass walls, allowing you to gaze at the entire mountain landscape and the Houlong River from your bed. Each room also comes with a large rocking chair – gently swaying while admiring the scenery is pure bliss. Downstairs, you’re greeted by a 200-ping (approx. 660 m²) lawn, perfect for rolling around or lying down stargazing. Fukuchou Health Farm is also pet-friendly. The vast grassy area serves as a natural playground for furry friends, and the toxin-free, chemical-free environment ensures pet owners can let their pets run freely without worry.

As the glass house is still in its trial sales phase, more amenities will continue to be added. The owner’s daughter mentioned plans to introduce a pizza oven, European-style courtyard barbecue, and even a Mongolian yurt in the future to enhance the facilities. Currently, individual guests can enjoy special discounts for weekday stays – even if it’s just two people, you can book the whole cabin without worrying about sharing with strangers. The current trial prices are 15,000 NTD for up to 12 people on weekdays, and 18,000 NTD on holidays. This place also doubles as an orchard, with persimmons being the most abundant fruit – covering about 1.5 acres. Every year during September and October, returning guests come to stay and can pick persimmons for free. There’s an abundance of fruit, so guests are welcome to pick as much as they want to take home – some even come with trucks to haul them away. The owner’s daughter said the persimmons here are organic and toxin-free, making them crisp and sweet. Other seasonal fruits include longan, jade wax apple, mango, starfruit, peach, plum, guava… and more. Guests who visit during harvest seasons can enjoy free fruit-picking experiences. From April to May, you might even spot fireflies.

The owner previously worked at the Grand Hotel in Taipei and was Chiang Ching-kuo’s personal chef. Though now retired, meals at Fukuchou Farm are still prepared by his wife, featuring many classic dishes from those days. Using vegetables sourced from the mountains and ingredients in season, different dishes are crafted daily. Homemade breakfasts and à la carte dinners are served. The accommodation includes one night’s stay and one meal (breakfast); for an additional 600 NTD per person, guests can upgrade to one night with two meals (breakfast and dinner) plus two experience activities.

The dinners at Fukuchou Farm are à la carte, with seasonal dishes rotating throughout the year. Some must-try classics include “Imperial Tofu” – a favorite of Chiang Ching-kuo. It’s made from wheat sprout-ground tofu, specially developed because Chiang couldn’t eat beans. This dish requires meticulous preparation, with fresh tofu delivered daily from a master in Taipei. There’s also mulberry leaf omelet, made with wild mulberry leaves picked from deep in the mountains, offering a uniquely delicious flavor. The signature Three-Cup Chicken here is also special – made with mountain-picked basil and free-range chicken raised in the highlands, you can truly taste the natural flavors of the ingredients.
