What kind of whimsical way do you want everyone to see? Taiwan’s first embroidered escalator has appeared inside Taipei City Hall MRT Station. On this 12-meter-long escalator, embroidery is used to convey the thought-provoking whimsy of adults.

The outdoor embroidered handrail advertisement, stretching 1,276 cm in total, involved over 5 million stitches and took 450 hours to complete. It showcases adult whimsical philosophies such as “It’s okay to soak your heart in the hot spring, just replenish your body afterward,” “Let the kids see—you’ve got more experience than a mom who oversleeps,” and “Later I understood, you need to be tough at heart but soft in body.” These messages are expressed through embroidery, allowing commuters to both see and touch them while riding the MRT, sparking resonance among adults about embracing their own quirks.

This is the creation of illustrator “Paper Travel” and Ki’tD Embroidery Society, producing the longest physical embroidered advertisement ever seen in the Taipei MRT. Stitch by stitch, they tell the kinds of whimsical truths only adults understand on a 12-meter-long escalator. Six whimsical stories have been embroidered, allowing busy office workers to experience and touch these messages with their eyes and hands during their commute. When touching these expressions of whimsy, it serves as a reminder to occasionally be a little selfish and love oneself.
