The Dutch trendy hotel brand citizenM opened its first Asian branch in Taiwan in 2017, located at Taipei’s North Gate, and has now been in operation for a full year. Due to the high praise it has received from travelers and the promising growth potential of Asia’s tourism market, citizenM decided to open branches in Shanghai and Malaysia by the end of 2018.

Compared to traditional hotels, the interior design of citizenM is more vibrant and design-focused, making it hard to believe it’s actually a hotel.

The interior decor of citizenM hotels is distinct from that of traditional hotels, with small and large furnishings such as chairs, sofas, and throw pillows all exuding a youthful vibe.
The public space design of citizenM hotels is lively and creative.
As citizenM’s first Asian branch, citizenM Taipei North Gate has hosted over 120,000 guests in its first year since opening in 2017. Most of them come from Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Macau, and China, while Western guests make up around 20% of total visitors. Though that may seem a small percentage, it actually represents the highest number of Western guests among hotels in Taipei’s western district.
