Following the first-ever street closure for the Kaohsiung sunset in 2017 on Youth Road—unfortunately, poor weather meant the sunset never appeared—Kaohsiung City Government’s Tourism Bureau has once again decided to close the street on Sunday, November 11 this year. From 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., the fast and slow lanes of Youth 1st Road (from Minquan 1st Road to Weiren Street) will be subject to road closure controls, allowing sunset chasers and photography enthusiasts to capture the beautiful scene.

The famous ‘Manhattanhenge’ (Manhattan Solstice) allows people to see the sunset’s glow spread across east-west streets twice a year, thanks to its grid-like street layout. Kaohsiung streets share the same conditions as Manhattan, so you can also enjoy this spectacular twice-yearly phenomenon.
According to the Central Weather Bureau, the sunset on November 11 this year is predicted to occur at 5:15 p.m. It is recommended that those wishing to watch the sunset take public transportation to the area and then walk over. Those driving can use the nearby Minquan Light Steel Parking Lot and Siwei Multi-Level Parking Lot. Also, Bus Route 11 will be rerouted that day, so please stay alert.
