Once named one of the world’s must-visit destinations by foreign media, the “Baiyang Trail” in Taroko has recently reopened after a year-long renovation of its iconic Water Curtain Cave at the trail’s end.

The 2.1-kilometer Baiyang Trail features a generally flat and easy path, making it a famous tourist attraction. The round trip takes about two hours, during which visitors can admire waterfalls, canyons, and the unique spectacle of the “Water Curtain Cave.”

The trail was closed for construction starting in 2017 to create a more visitor-friendly path. Although it reopened in February this year, the Water Curtain Cave at the end of the trail remained closed due to foundation erosion caused by a typhoon. After a year of emergency repairs by the park administration, it has finally reopened in full, letting visitors once again marvel at this special sight.

Baiyang Trail originated as a construction road for the Taiwan Power Company. At the 2.1-kilometer mark lies the Water Curtain Cave, where mountain spring water pours down from the tunnel ceiling’s aquifer, creating a unique curtain-like spectacle. However, the cave’s rock formations may still be loosened and fall due to the strong scouring of the spring water, so visitors should stay alert to environmental conditions when entering.

The park administration also reminds visitors that the pool in front of the Water Curtain Cave is designed to divert water out to the Tachia River and serves as the water intake source for the Tianxiang area. To ensure water safety, please do not swim or play in the pool to avoid polluting the water source.
