The Nine-in-One elections are highly competitive and a key concern for many voters, prompting many to return to their hometowns to vote. With transportation options like high-speed rail, trains, and buses all sold out, not only do many take this chance to go back home and visit, but pre-election campaign rallies are also drawing significant attention. Below are the major campaign rallies scheduled for the night before the election.
The 2018 Nine-in-One Public Officials Elections were highly tense and widely discussed before voting day.
1. Taipei – Ko Wen-je
Current Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je is striving for re-election. His pre-election rally will be held at 44 South Village, with the theme “Civic Awareness, Coexistence of Blue and Green,” and a mystery guest is set to appear.
The event includes a carnival in the afternoon starting at 16:00 and the rally in the evening at 18:00. 44 South Village is near Exit 2 of Taipei 101 Station on the Red Line of the MRT.
2. Taipei – Ting Shou-chung
Ting Shou-chung will hold his pre-election rally on November 23 at Ketagalan Boulevard. His campaign slogan is “Taiwan’s Future Is in Your Hands
3. Taipei – Yao Wen-chih
On the evening of November 23, Yao Wen-chih held his election eve rally in front of Taipei City Hall. President Tsai Ing-wen confirmed her attendance, marking her seventh time campaigning for Yao. Yao’s mentor, Frank Hsieh, was also expected to appear.
4. Taoyuan – Chen Hsueh-sheng
An election eve rally was scheduled for 6:00 PM at the Southern Campaign Headquarters (the intersection of Qihelu and Qihyi Street in Zhongli), featuring former President Ma Ying-jeou, KMT Chairman Wu Den-yih, and New Taipei Mayor Eric Chu, among others, lending their support.Taoyuan – Cheng Wen-tsan He opted for a walking street campaign connecting Southern and Northern Taoyuan, with no large-scale rally.
The northern Taoyuan walking campaign began at 5:30 PM from the Rail Vision Museum near Taoyuan Railway Station, passing through Section 3 of Wanshou Road, Zhongzheng Road, Daxing West Road, and the Art & Culture First Street lawn, before arriving at the Northern Taoyuan Campaign Headquarters on Zhengguang Road. The election eve rally started at 7:00 PM, followed by another walking campaign from 7:30 to 8:30 PM, which departed from the Southern Taoyuan Campaign Headquarters, passed through Zhongfeng Road, Yuanhua Road, Zhongshan Road, Xinming Road, Zhongyang West Road, and Xingsheng Road, and finally returned to Zhongmei Road to conclude the route through both the north and south areas.
5. Hsinchu – Lin Chih-chien
Incumbent Hsinchu Mayor Lin Chih-chien held his election eve rally on the evening of the 23rd at 6:30 PM with the “Tomorrow’s Hsinchu Parade.” Attendees were encouraged to wear orange clothing and accessories to show support for a brighter future for Hsinchu, culminating in a gathering at Dongmen City Roundabout.Hsinchu – Hsieh Wen-chin and Hsu Ming-tsai Both candidates held no large-scale rallies but did organize election eve events. Hsieh Wen-chin hosted a “Thousand Lights for Hsinchu” blessing ceremony at Zhulian Temple, while Hsu Ming-tsai held his event on World Street next to his campaign headquarters.
6. Taichung – Lin Chia-lung
Lin Chia-lung’s campaign team held its election eve rally at the Yuanfen Forest Park’s Harmony Theater, centering on the theme “We Are All the Taichung Team.” The finale featured performances by the Jiutian Folk Arts Troupe and a mystery guest, aiming to mobilize 30,000 supporters.7. Lu Hsiu-yan’s campaign held its election eve rally at 7:00 PM on the 23rd at the intersection of Section 3 of Henan Road and North 2nd Municipal Road in West District, Taichung. Her campaign also revealed the “KMT Six Major Cities Unite” initiative, sparking curiosity among supporters.
