Off to Hokkaido to film a travel show!
Once upon a time, a young girl with no formal production experience was chosen to go to Hokkaido to film a travel show...
Looking back, it was almost exactly a year ago. My experience was actually quite unique. Like many others, I would occasionally film things,
and just like most people, I’d upload videos to YouTube.
One day, someone messaged me, asking if I’d be interested in doing post-production for a travel show.
At first, I thought I might be getting scammed, but after a lot of communication and test editing,
I was selected to go to Hokkaido to film a travel show!
To be honest, I didn’t have much confidence in myself,
but at the time I thought, “Whatever, at least I get to travel to Japan for free!” Hahaha...
My original job was as an editor,
then the producer found out I did design work, so I ended up doing design and animation,
then they learned I studied screenwriting, so I was also asked to write scripts,
and then they said, “Might as well take on the role of script supervisor too.”
And so, I set off for Hokkaido with four different roles.
Since it was a work trip,
the itinerary wasn’t up to me,
but it was still a very special travel experience for me,
so you can just think of this as a travelogue =>
The trip lasted seven days, and the main filming location was Sapporo,
with the hotel arranged by the client.
Our hotel wasn’t near the city center, so on the first day we opted for the hotel’s all-you-can-eat restaurant.
The first day of any trip is usually pretty dull — just meetings, script revisions, and preparing for the next day’s shoot.
On the second and third days, we officially started filming. When shooting on location, many things are unpredictable,
and often it’s just a matter of “shooting on the fly” — filming whatever we could wherever we were, looking up information online in real time, rewriting scripts on the spot,
even though we were in such a beautiful place, there was always an indescribable sense of pressure.
This travel show featured Taiwanese beauty and actress Abby Feng Huanzhen,
who is also a model for Japanese magazines,
the connections between people are truly mysterious,
I often saw her on Taiwanese variety shows,
never imagining that one day I’d get to chat and laugh with her.
Sapporo is a place with a low cost of living (perhaps because Hong Kong’s is so high),
where I met a Japanese exchange student from mainland China,
who said that tuition, living expenses, dormitory fees, and other miscellany can actually be covered with around ten thousand RMB per month in Sapporo.
In the following days, we discovered a Japanese supermarket near our hotel,
which many know marks down sushi, prepared food, sashimi, and the like after 8 PM,
and for about HKD $20, we were able to buy four fresh uni sushi.
Youth is silly — might as well do all the foolish things.
In the end, our group of more than ten bought twenty thousand yen worth of sushi, prepared food, and sashimi, and had a picnic and set off fireworks in a nearby park.
Though it seemed we ended up as the main course for Japan’s mosquitoes that night, though.
Although it was work, being in Japan certainly wasn’t so dreary~
The next few days were truly the travel part...
We also went to the Hakone Farm to milk cows, visited the Asahi Brewery, shopped like crazy around Sapporo streets...
