The Green Mountain Line of the Dahshan Light Rail is set to open at the end of the year. It has invited internationally renowned picture book author Jimmy Liao to plan public art installations themed around local features of Tamsui at each station. Once completed, passengers will be able to enjoy Jimmy Liao’s artworks along the entire Green Mountain Line.

In conjunction with the opening of the Green Mountain Line of the Dahshan Light Rail, sidewalk improvement projects have been carried out along the surrounding roads. Along Sections 1 and 2 of Binhai Road, where the light rail transitions from an elevated track to ground level, the sidewalks are 8.5 meters wide. Within the scope of this project, landscape, water storage, flood prevention, and smart design concepts have been integrated.

The public art installations on the Green Mountain Line of the Dahshan Light Rail differ from the past approach of commissioning individual artworks for single metro stations. Instead, the project takes a holistic approach across all 11 stations along the line. Jimmy Liao was commissioned to create a series of three-dimensional works titled “Close Your Eyes for a While,” which he spent two years developing specifically for this project.

The Green Mountain Line mainly runs through the Tamsui New Town, where most residents are core families—typically couples with children. Jimmy Liao’s picture book “Close Your Eyes for a While” centers on a little girl riding the light rail, set against backdrops of Tamsui’s scenery such as Guanyin Mountain, terraced fields, and twilight. The story follows an imaginative journey while exploring themes of personal growth and the relationship between people and their environment.

The Green Mountain Line adopts a unified public art project spanning the entire line, using a commissioned creation model. Meanwhile, the first phase of the Blue Sea Line, which includes three stations, plans to openly recruit a curator to collaborate with local Tamsui artists in organizing the “Green Mountain Blue Sea Art Festival.”
