A café isn’t just for hipsters to hang out anymore, because ever since cat and dog cafés became popular, we all know the real attraction isn’t the coffee. So, in Harajuku, Tokyo, someone boldly opened the Tokyo Snake Center — a live snake café!
Currently, the café houses about 40 snakes of various species, including corn snakes and ball pythons. For an entrance fee of ¥1000 / HK$65 (which includes a drink), you can choose any one to keep you company. All the snakes are kept in transparent containers and are quite tame. And if you want to hold a snake, it’s only an additional ¥540 / HK$35. There are also veterinarians and staff on-site to ensure safety. The café has gone from being a limited-time event to a permanent shop, and within its first month of opening, over a thousand people visited — showing there's definitely a market. Who knows, maybe bugs, rodents, or ants will join the lineup later?
