A noticeable earthquake occurred at 23:15 on December 9!
The epicenter was located 11.7 kilometers northwest of Hualien County Government, with a magnitude of 5.1 and a depth of 19.2 kilometers. Shaking exceeding magnitude 2 was felt in multiple counties and cities.

This was a shallow-depth earthquake, and the shaking was quite noticeable; earlier that same evening at 22:06, a magnitude 3 earthquake occurred in Renhe District, Tainan City, with a depth of only 12.5 kilometers. At dawn on December 9, another magnitude 4.1 earthquake struck Yunlin. So far, no damage has been reported from any of these events.
