Paraguay Announces Enhanced Visa Treatment for Our Citizens

Paraguay, a South American diplomatic ally that was previously reported to be facing a potential diplomatic crisis, announced on the 18th that it will enhance the visa treatment for our citizens traveling to Paraguay starting immediately. Holders of our national passport may be issued multiple-entry visas valid for the same duration as their passport (including on-arrival visas issued at Asunción Silvio Pettirossi International Airport).

The Paraguayan government granted our citizens arriving at Asunción Silvio Pettirossi International Airport a one-year multiple-entry on-arrival visa in 2012. This latest enhancement in visa treatment further facilitates our businesspeople traveling to Paraguay for commercial inspections.

Paraguay is approximately 11 times the size of our country, with a population of about 6.8 million people. The official language is Spanish. Taiwan has a Consulate-General in Ciudad del Este. Ciudad del Este is Paraguay’s second-largest city, located on the southeastern border of the country, adjacent to Argentina and Brazil. It is an important commercial city and a well-known hub for Chinese and Arab communities in South America.
