From now on, if you’re on Miyako Island, stepping onto a gondola without even leaving your resort can become an unforgettable experience. This innovative project stems from a collaboration between local companies, resulting in something unprecedented in Japan. It’s eco-friendly, quiet, and leaves no environmental impact. It’s being hailed as “Japan’s first of its kind.”
The island’s largest Shigira Resort has built the island’s first mountain gondola. The 283-meter-long ride lasts 13 minutes, taking passengers through the expansive tropical resort grounds while offering a 360-degree unobstructed view of the coral reefs in the ocean and the endless blue sky.
Another highlight of the gondola is that it departs from a high point near Shigira Beach House. Since there is no glass barrier, riders can feel the sea breeze blowing toward them, enjoying a sense of freedom and comfort. As the gondola approaches the station near Prefectural Route 235, passengers can sit back and admire the sparkling ocean waves.
