Tainan is home to countless traditional snack shops, many with a history spanning over a century. Among them, “Dawoyo Danzai Noodles,” a representative of Tainan’s century-old snacks, is a must-try for visitors. However, on the 17th, it unexpectedly announced that its original store would suspend operations indefinitely starting immediately for internal renovations.

Originally established in 1895 as a danzai noodles stall by fisherman Hong Yutou, Dawoyo Danzai Noodles has been delighting Tainan locals for 123 years. Its rich and robust broth is seasoned with specially made minced pork, Indonesian Java eco-shrimp, century-old Wu Xian vinegar, and shrimp soup—creating a uniquely flavorful Tainan classic. Now in its fourth generation, the recipe continues to be passed down.

The original Dawoyo store unexpectedly announced its temporary closure. In a statement, Dawoyo explained that the hiatus was due to internal family discussions and rent issues, with plans to reopen in late January 2019.

Apart from the original store, all other Dawoyo branches across Taiwan remain open. Visitors planning a trip to Tainan to try Dawoyo can visit the Zhongzheng flagship store instead to enjoy the same classic century-old flavors.
