After years of development, Macau has evolved into a small hub for culture and creative industries. In recent years, more and more boutique shops have opened, among which Guanqian Street and Junxiu Wai beneath the Ruins of St. Paul’s have emerged as a uniquely artistic neighborhood. This area used to be dominated by antique items, but it has since been revitalized with the introduction of numerous restaurants and artsy shops. A friend involved in the project said: “Macau should look outward to the world, and the best way to do that is to let everyone learn about the cultures and crafts from around the globe.”
Due to its colonial history, Macau has been heavily influenced by Portuguese culture, so it’s not hard to find products imported from Portugal on this street. Some shops also offer ceramic dishes with artistic patterns sourced from South Africa, reportedly among the country’s finest handicrafts.
