Urban Space Transforms into a Sports Arena – Must-See Highlights of Taichung’s “Green Circle Art Festival”

The annual 2016 “Green Circle Flip Action Ready Go” is a highly anticipated event for the people of Taichung. This year (105th fiscal year), the QIN Art Museum has been transformed into a public sports arena, with the theme of a sports competition. The entire space has been turned into areas resembling a golf course, swimming pool, and basketball court, while surrounding mall spaces have also been redesigned for exhibitions, completely overturning traditional sports rules and turning an urban art museum into a massive sports ground. QIN Art Museum
For the QIN Art Museum section of the “Green Circle Flip Action Ready Go,” five groups of artists created a small house area that serves as an 18-hole golf competition venue, with each hole designed to overturn conventional golf rules. Featuring spinning or challenge-based gameplay combined with sound effects, a single golf club costs 100 NT dollars and must be returned after use. In addition to golf, the art festival also includes fun activities such as table tennis, swimming pools, basketball, and aerobics.

Chen Siyin, PR representative of QIN Art Museum, pointed out that the highlight of the Green Circle Art Festival is the subversive experience — it’s not a real sports competition, but rather a twist on traditional sports rules, offering an interactive art exhibition full of fun. Reporters who visited the QIN Art Museum in person found that each of the 18 golf holes was uniquely designed, complete with sound effects and other engaging elements, making it quite entertaining.

The swimming pool section is also a major highlight. Walking under blue panels illuminated by sunlight, the floor displays realistic water ripples, and inflatable floating props are added so visitors can lie in this imagined pool and enjoy “artistic leisure” in the city.

Golden Plaza Greenery Boulevard Mall
At the Golden Plaza Greenery Boulevard Mall, from the first floor to B1, the theme “Cool Daydreams” takes center stage. Large ice block artworks float in the entrance area of the first floor. Inside the mall, a giant faucet spouting water is displayed, titled “The Faucet That Won’t Turn Off.” On B1, the space is designed to resemble being inside a swimming pool, giving visitors the feeling of shopping underwater. There’s also a “Daydream Exchange Vending Machine” where you can weigh your dreams to see how many candies you can get in return.
