Taiwanese passports are getting even more convenient to use. In recent years, many countries have opened up automatic customs clearance services for Taiwanese travelers. No more waiting in long lines — as long as you hold a Taiwanese passport and apply according to the regulations, you can enjoy fast-track clearance services, which are both convenient and time-saving. Here’s a list of six countries that allow Taiwanese travelers to apply for expedited customs clearance. Be sure to apply before your next trip abroad.

1. Germany

2. South Korea
South Korea’s automated immigration clearance system was officially launched this summer. The application process only takes a brief 2–5 minutes and is completely free of charge. Application centers are available at Incheon Airport’s Terminal 1 and 2, Gimpo Airport, Gimhae Airport, and Seoul Station. To be eligible, applicants must be at least 17 years old, hold a valid Republic of China electronic chip passport with a validity period of more than 6 months, visit for purposes such as tourism or business, and have no criminal or adverse records in South Korea. This convenient service is a huge boon for Korea enthusiasts.

3. Japan
Japan opened up fast-track immigration clearance to Taiwanese travelers back in late 2016, but the eligibility criteria and regulations are stricter.
Eligibility requirements include:
● Holding a passport from a country that enjoys visa-free entry to Japan
●No record of forced deportation or denied entry
● No criminal record overseas
● The applicant must be employed full-time or have worked for at least one year at a government agency in Japan or Taiwan, a company invested in by the Japanese or Taiwanese governments, a publicly listed company
If the applicant meets the above qualifications, they can fill out the application on the website of Japan’s Ministry of Justice, and after an initial document review and a follow-up interview, the Automated Border Clearance service application can be completed. The application fee is 2,200 Japanese yen.
4. United States
Since 2017, the United States has officially included Taiwan in the Global Entry program. Applicants only need to obtain a Police Criminal Record Certificate (Good Conduct Certificate

台湾也自2017年，成为澳洲“智慧闸门计划(SmartGate)”中可享有自动通关服务的国家之一，只要是年满16岁以上中华民国公民、持有有效的中华民国电子芯片护照，抵达澳洲主要机场时，即可直接携带护照至Smart Gate自助通关机台前办理，十分方便，而且无须任何费用。
