I’ve been to Shing Mun Reservoir a few times, but this time I made a special trip to see the famously beautiful paperbark trees. I know this place is already well-known, and many people come here specifically for it—but it was actually my first time visiting...
I remember one year, I came here with friends at night to see fireflies. Back then, there were only a few, but even that was a big deal for someone who had never seen them before. It was so dark that we couldn’t see much, but this time during my day trip, I returned to the same spot—it felt both familiar and unfamiliar. I’d walked this path before, but I’d never seen this view.
Let’s not talk about the transportation for now. Once you arrive, head up the stairs on the left—that’s the Pineapple Dam Nature Trail. This route is quicker.
Along the way, you’ll see the Shing Mun Country Trail Visitor Centre, which has some information about Shing Mun Reservoir and some games for kids.
As you walk slowly, you’ll pass streams and pavilions. Strolling under the shade of the trees isn’t too tiring.
After walking for a while, you’ll arrive at the stunning paperbark forest. It’s truly beautiful—lots of people are taking photos here. Seeing this gorgeous scenery was a real treat; it’s so peaceful. The sunlight filters gently through the trees, and I love how tranquil this place is.
It took a while to get a photo with fewer people, but it was worth it. Beyond the forest, you’ll reach the paperbark trees by the reservoir’s edge.
There are people fishing, taking photos, and having picnics—it’s definitely a great spot. I sat under the big trees to enjoy the shade, watching others take pictures across the way—it was incredibly relaxing.

Transportation: Exit B1 at Tsuen Wan MTR Station, take minibus 82 from the junction of Chung On Street and Siu Wo Street to Shing Mun Reservoir
