Recently, there have been online claims that starting from now, travelers from Hong Kong to Vietnam can apply for a visa online by themselves, and a so-called “official website” has emerged. However, after our verification, this “official website” is actually just an intermediary company specializing in handling Vietnam visas. Remember to look carefully when applying for your visa!
The online “official website” – Vietnamimmigration.org, has been verified by our website as merely a relatively large local intermediary company that specializes in visa processing. The official website of the Vietnamese government ends with gov.vn.
Currently, if you wish to apply for a Vietnam visa online by yourself, you can only do so through an intermediary company to obtain an “entry confirmation letter.” Upon arrival at a Vietnamese airport or checkpoint, you then present this letter along with your ID photo to exchange it for the actual Vietnam visa. Most intermediary companies process these entry confirmation letters together with other applicants, so the letter may display different names and passport numbers. Be mindful of privacy and security.
Currently, it is not possible to directly apply for a Vietnam visa online from Hong Kong; only an entry confirmation letter can be issued by an intermediary company.
In addition, you can also queue up at the Vietnamese Consulate in Hong Kong to apply, with prices starting from $640. While this method is more expensive than the one mentioned above, it eliminates privacy concerns.
